With the new year comes new resolutions. One of the most popular resolutions is to get fit and stay healthy. January and February are when the gym is the most crowded and when people decide to start getting back in shape. Unfortunately not everyone know what is best for your feet during this time. Here are some new years fitness tips for you feet!
- Wear the proper footwear- We can’t stress this enough. Having a pair of running shoes that keep you stable and fit well. Ask your local podiatrist or orthotist for help selecting a shoe that is designed for your fitness activity and foot type. In fact it is recommended to change your footwear every 500 miles
- Consider Custom Orthotics– Ladies, this can save your feet! Custom orthotics are made from cast impressions from your feet and made into custom inserts for you shoes. Orthotics are especially useful for athletes, pregnant moms or people who are experiences changes in their feet.
- Start Slow– If you are just starting an exercise routine you are not completely used to, start slow and avoid uneven rigorous terrain until you get used to fitness again. This is to avoid injuries such as shin splints and plantar fasciitis, more commonly known as heel pain.
- Practice Stretching– Stretching after workouts is vital. It will help you avoid injury and stay strong.
